The next time you're sitting around, like, what should I do today? Play wiffle ball in the park. Wiffle ball is awesome because a) you get to say the word "wiffle" repeatedly and b) because you can't really be too good or too bad at it. And c) it's a boatload of fun.
Plus we have tons of parks along the waterfront and you don't even need a diamond to play wiffle ball.
This is me racing for the wiffle ball in Rainy Park. I'm no Al Leiter, but it was fun times.

Wiffle Ball how that brings me back to my youth... I would play in a minute. See if there are others interested in playing as well. Last year we had all of our Starliters' spend the day in Rainey Park and we had a co-ed softball game and it was great. Maybe we can play wiffle ball this time...I can remember in the 70's when I was a kid, my Dad and I would take our dog there and let her run free because it was always so quite there. I can also remember my two older sister camping there in the mid 70's along with a few hundred other people for some music festival they had held there. It was also the first place I had ever kissed a girl and it was where I hit my first home run in little league... OK enough with the nostalgia... Have a great day!!!
Rainy Park isn't that big. You're not thinking of Randall's Island?
No it's Rainey Park on Vernon Blvd in LIC. The park was named after Dr. Thomas Rainey who pretty much single handily lobbied to have The Queens Borough built. He spend most of his money and a good part of his life to finally see it happen. Rainey Park is where the bridge was supposed to be built and after Rainey died a year after the completion of the bridge, the city bought the land and dedicated it in his honor.
In the mid 70's all the neighborhood kids had their own music festival and got some of the local musicians to come and perform as everyone pitched tents, barbequed, played all kinds of games and had a mini, mini Woodstock. I was about 7 yrs old at the time and it was bigger then life to me. I remembered how I was so mad that I couldn't camp out with them but spending just the day there was so great.
It would be great to do again but the difference today is that there is probably so much red tape involved, who would want to sort through it...
Have a great Day!!!
Wow. That's really neat though. I wish I could've seen it.
Can History repeat itself? And just for the record it was great, at least from a kids prospective...
thanks for sharing your idea and thoughts.
