Another try

Here we go again.....
Well this was a restaurant/cafe for about a minute in its last incarnation, 1 guess as to what it will turn out to be this time? I think it was called Dacine before or something like that, and it was actually very cute. Not too sure if this corner cuts the mustard though (30th Ave & 34th St). Guess we'll just have to wait and see....how fun... This is not helping the girls over at Alpha Astoria at all, add another one to your list girls!

if someone is opening another cafe they should pay me some sort of consulting fee to help them make the right cafe choices:

stuff like...

lots of yummy looking cakes: good for business
scary greek grandma who yells at people: bad for business

yeah, that's the former dacine site. it's been closed now for about a year -- the signs in its windows did say 'closed for renovation,' but i guess that isn't the case anymore.

i wish a non-cafe bar would go in that space -- not a meat market or a total dive, just a place to go get a drink and hang out. but it seems like that's too much to ask for in this part of the neighborhood, feh.

When I first moved to Astoria...this space was a hardware store...then it became Dacine Cafe. It actually was a cute space, and not bad food. The servings at breakfast were insanely huge (it was always busy in the am and the dinner wasn't bad...it was average though....perfect for when family from the middle of nowhere visits (personal experience). I hope it's not another generic cafe on 30th....I would welcome a Starbucks over that.

I too have partaken of the former Dacine Cafe and I also thought it was okay... not great, but not bad, and definately good for the prices. The chef/owner was a former science-and-sports-writer and his books stacked on the shelves in the back were always interesting to peruse. Their fries were pretty good. Anyone know what happened to their art deco classic Queens World's Fair posters? Hope the new tenants AREN'T a eurobar.

A really good burger (beef, turkey, veggie) joint would be terrific!

Which corner is that? I used to live at 30-75 34th street, and don't recognize it from this pic.
