More on Astoria Park Pool

While running down by Astoria Park today, I saw the pool all filled up! It was cool to see the change. I also saw a flyer/poster taped to one of the lamppost announcing swim lessons for kids at the pool! Lessons are for children 1.5-14 years of age. You can register for them at the pool. And, along with the early bird lap swimming from 7-8:30am, there's going to be "night owl" swimming from 7-8:30pm. Both sessions are M-F and go from July 5-August 31. More about lap swimming, here, and swim programs, here.

Do you know if lap swimming is allowed during regular hours? There's a whole portion of the pool not in use...

No, during regular hours it's not reserved for lap swimming. On cooler days when it's not crowded, they close it off entirely. When the pool is near capacity they open it up for general swimming. When it's open, you can try swimming laps and see if people respect your space, but there's no guarantee.

Hmm... this post is 2 years old. Lap swimming happens outside regular hours, so it's understandable that it's not reserved for lap swimming tgeb. I would only try lap swimming during the alloted hours - no knowing if some kid is going to accidentally kick you in the head while you're focusing.
