Anna's Corner Is Now Athens Tavern

I walked by the location where Anna's Corner was (31st Street and 23rd Ave) and saw that a new awning had gone up with the name "Athens Tavern". I passed by there a week or so ago and asked a couple guys outside (they were taking a smoke break from their work on the space) what kind of restaurant it was going to be and they said "a fish restaurant". Not like we don't have many of those in the neighborhood. But, as Elias Corner and Taverna Kyclades get mixed reviews, maybe a new fish restaurant could give them both a run for their money. I just hope they don't get their fish from the Astoria Fishery on 31st Street - that place smells rank!

This is heartbreaking for me! Anna's corner was a local favorite and a good low price greek alternative.

I hope the new Stamatis doesn't go up too much in price with their new location (Across the street).

But I will miss Annas!

Annas was bought by the guy who owns the restaurant Pinnochio (hope i spelled that correctly). He's taking over the lease. Annas corner was excellent...hopefully this one willl be the same.

Peter, thanks for letting us know about the Pinocchio connection. I really hope the fish will be good there, and that they'll have some good meats to offer as well. I'm looking forward to checking it out when it re-opens.

I walked by yesterday - they're painting the inside a kind of dark rust color, to match the color of the awning outside. The place is going to look pretty different, I think.

I just pray they can still deliver a strip steak. That is the one thing I counted on Anna's for - and they did it well.
