Yeah - cool app, right?

Oh this is great fun! (but one should be able to edit their own markers... or else accidentally lead others a-stray... opps...)

I know. As admin, I can delete. If you botch one and want me to nix it, just let me know. No worries.

this is awesome!

hey - whoever put Marc Lanes - what's that place like? Is it cool? I love bowling.

maura said...

i mapped maric lanes! it's a pretty old-school bowling alley, with maybe 24 lanes, a bar, and a snack bar. the look of the place is fairly unique -- there's a second level with lockers and extra video games, and the high ceiling gives the place a slightly different feel than most of the alleys i've been to.

getting there is a bit of a hike, although you can take the bus.

Unknown said...

hmmmm. Well, I like to bike around, so getting there wouldn't be that bad. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for mapping it! Everyone's put such great stuff up. Some places I hadn't even heard of!

I know it's best to map places with web sites, but there are several I'd like to post that don't have web sites.

Unknown said...

no worries. Map whatever you want!

How do you correct an error in your own posting on the map?

Unknown said...

ah - you can't! If you want me to delete one, just let me know. It's no problem.

On the topic of bowling alleys. About 6 months ago I was walking down Broadway around Crescent and while peeking into a construction zone noticed what seemed to be the remainder of a bowling alley. Was there at some point a bowling alley on Broadway?

Unknown said...

yes! I never knew about it until it was too late, but here's a thread on it...

Yes, I made (amazingly) 3 mistakes. Communitea, Lounge 47 and Purple Pumpkin, which I placed on 11th Street should all go on Vernon Blvd in the same order/locations. Sorry for the trouble.

Unknown said...

no worries - I've deleted them. You can go ahead and map them again.

This is probably a weird request...There is an old run down white stucco looking house, set back a little, on Ditmars Blvd, not too far from the airport exit. If you're coming from the airport, it should be on your left side. Would you please take a picture of it for me? My Mom grew up in that house in the early 1920's. After my Mom died I moved away from NYC. For some reason I never took a picture of the house. After my Mom's family sold it, the Mills Brothers owned it for awhile as did Louis Armstrong, so the story was handed down. I greatly appreciate your efforts, if not, I understand as this is a rather weird request and you don't even know me.

Mr. Ferris b. yes there was a bowling alley on Broadway off of Crescent. My uncle used to own it and I was a pinsetter there when I was a kid. it was called the strand lanes after the movie theater that was right above it. I talked to my uncle who said that they are going to make the old bowling alley into many small recording studios. The old stand movie theater became an independent movie studio for a while and is now a 99 cent store... Hope that helps.

Unknown said...

tweakie, why don't you post this request on astorians.net. They're likely to turn it around a lot faster.

Anonymous said...

Thank you for the suggestion, I will give it a try.
