Ditmars and 35th - Something's Happenin'

I am curious, like that man in the picture, as to what is going in at this "doomed" restaurant corner. It was mussels and frites, was empty for about 2 years, now...? I heard somewhere, "Mediterranean". I hope it's not sushi, we have too many of those in the neighborhood. Many hope for Indian.

I asked one of the guys a few weeks ago and he said Italian. I also saw the mention of Mediterranean on the Astorians board.

So surprising about the rash of sushi places on Ditmars. Just a few short years ago (well, 7) when I lived there, nary a sushi joint was to be found. A good Italian place in the 'hood would be nice.

oh god, whatever it is... all I can say is that when I walked by there one evening a couple of weeks ago I saw some people sponge painting the ceiling with bright blue paint. IT WAS HEINOUS.

I saw the place open the other day (not open like "open for business", but open and working on the insides) and spoke to one of the guys in there. He said it was going to be a restaurant, serving "international" food. I asked "what do you mean by 'international'"? He said, "a little of this, a little of that". He said it's not going to be a eurocafe, but a place to "eat and drink". The outside looks pretty different, too. I'll try to take a picture soon.

amy, yeah, the bright blue paint really stands out! And I thought the (fake) iguana I saw there was striking!

I spied that same iguana! It's bronze and seems to be guarding the entry! I wish the guy who opened fatty's would put his hand on this place. His polenta corn cakes are my favorite brunch item in ALL the five boroughs! I think he could really do something amazing here!

Rock on, lolo! I did not know the iguana was made of bronze! I hope they keep him when the restaurant opens. ;)

I think the guy in charge of Fatty's has his hands full with the restaurant and Crescent and Wine next door, a place I need to still check out. But yeah, I do like those polenta corn cakes. I'm also happy that they have a variety of tabasco sauces!
